The Mini-Guide to Planning a Summer Wedding

The Mini-Guide to Planning a Summer Wedding

It’s certainly fair to say that summer is one of the most popular times of the year to tie the knot. There are a multitude of reasons for this but quite often in the UK, it comes down to ensuring a bit of good weather (fingers crossed) and having the freedom to have your ceremony or reception outdoors!

There are plenty of things you can do to make your big day unforgettable and it doesn’t mean having an unlimited budget or being unrealistic about what you want. From finding the perfect venue to having beautiful seasonal flowers, there are a few summer wedding fundamentals that you’ll want to get right and this mini-guide is designed to get you started on the right track!

Select a Seasonal Menu

The last thing you want in summer is a heavy plate of food. With that in mind, we recommend opting for a fresh seasonal menu. There is certainly a time and place for a good, hearty meal but why not opt for lighter fare? Think fresh grilled fish or chicken with salad or seasonal vegetables. A great summer pudding is often something fruity. Perhaps a panna cotta with fruit coulis or fresh strawberries with cream and meringue?

Keep Fabrics Light and Airy

There is so much to be considered when selecting wedding attire but one thing to be factored in, is the season you have chosen to have your wedding. If you are planning a summer wedding, keep in mind that you’ll want to be comfortable, so keep fabrics light and flowing.

Ensure Shade is Provided

This one is particularly important if you are planning an outdoor wedding or reception in the height of summer. No one relishes standing around in the sun for hours on end and this is something that needs to be factored into your day. We certainly advise keeping the time between the wedding and ceremony to a minimum and perhaps planning your wedding to start at the cooler points of the day. You may even wish to opt for a late afternoon ceremony or evening reception, the choice is yours.

Set up Refreshment Stations

This is a brilliant idea at any time of the year but perhaps most specifically in summer. Having designated points where guests can grab a refreshing glass of bubbly or a fresh glass of lemonade will certainly be appreciated – especially on a warm, sunny day!
